After a long process of cleanup and rework, the CG-AMAZON system is ready for its first public release. You too can have cool sidebar links to your favorite Amazon products!
NEW VERSION!
Please grab the , and use the new version of CG-Amazon it has!
NEW VERSION!
Yes, the amazing CG-Amazon system that powers all the cool product links on the site is now being made available to the public. While currently in a BETA quality release, we’ve been running on the core code for months now – only the ‘cleanup’ process may have introduced some issues. CG-Amazon now can access products throughout most every area of Amazon, including Books, DVDs, Music, Apparel, Electronics, Computers, Video Games, and more!
PLEASE READ THE LICENSE.HTM FILE in the archive before using CGA on a website. While I’ve decided to make CGA free for individual use, I’d like to see a link back to the homepage here from people using CGA, and we have implemented a small (random 20%) chance of inserting our Associates ID into links (we need $ to be able to support this being released and maintained…)
Also note that this free licensing is only for individual use – Commercial, third-party (i.e., you implementing someone else’s site), and other non-individual/for-profit ventures should contact us to come to an arrangement before you use CGA. (The theory being if someone else is going to profit from work here, we should too!)
History:
- Initial release 05.12.04, version 0.91. FIRST PUBLIC BETA.

I think I may have discovered a bug in CGA’s cgaindex.php file.
The line in section that … has the “Click here to see more details…” link uses $URL, should actually use $prodURL in order to produce a ”..see more” link that works the same as the Associate button link. 10% Chait associate ID and 90% user specified associate link.
The current ‘$URL’ will always generate a link for Chait. I doubt this was intentional as you’re not doing this to the associate button.
thanks

Is it possible to change the size of the product thumbnails? Right now they are very small (39px x 60px) and I’d like make them one size bigger (108px x 169px).
Yes, I’m just about to put up 0.931, with a minor tweak to let you pass in image sizes. Try it out.

I would really like to use this plugin, and have followed all of the setup and install instructions. However on pressing the “add” button I come to a page which looks like this.

The errors continue forever, and I guess if I don’t use my browsers back button it would eventually bring down my server.
Any ideas? any clues as to what might be wrong?

If you look at how the book appears in the menue you can see that there is a problem. I have tried all that I can to fix it. I would like to remove the space above the picture and the extra bullet. Also I couldn’t figure out where to put the @import tag. The documentation was a little unclear on that aspect. I would be more than willing to put a link back to your site if I can get this to work properly. And I will leave your refferer in There. Thanks
Hi, David. I finally upgraded from WP Wuh-Wuh to WP 1.5 and am slowly reinstalling all my plugins. I’m a big fan of ChaitGear CGA Amazon because I had separate book and music pages where I linked to my favorite books and CDs. And I also used it for blog entries. Does it support WP 1.5 yet? The last comment here is dated well before the release of WP 1.5. Let me know; I’m very interested!
Yes, that’s the “NEW VERSION” thing at the top of the page – takes you to the newer PowerPack releases, which are built now to work under WP1.5.1.x…
Hi David,
Is there a way in cg-amazon that could display realtime amazon price in a wordpress post? or technically is it possible?
Thanks.
Yes, in combination with CG-Inline – turn it on, and look at its docs… The tag to insert into your posts is like
<!--amazon:SOMEASINHERE-->. So long as you have$amazonShowPrices = true;in your cgaconfig.php, you’ll get prices shown.Have you ever tried to make CG-Amazon to work within Mambo or Joomla? Making the required changes is definitively beyod my abilities, but perhaps you have done it before and turned this plug-in into a Joomla component and the corresponding Joomla module.
Thanks
Juan
Yes, I’ve looked into it a little bit – have yet to see some good documentation on creating/converting code for/to Joomla. I’ll have to look at some existing stuff, see how it works, see if I can figure it out from there.
Likely it’d be my ‘2.0′ release I’ve been working on for a while, that’ll no longer be free (I thank those folks who have donated over the past year and a half, but it’s been few and far between!) – certainly not for new development for a new CMS.
