Is Creative Updating the Zen?

We’re starting the rumors on this breaking news…

Last week, Gizmodo noted that Creative was starting to talk about a that an anonymous tipster had emailed in about, that was basically the Zen Micro, but in a piano-black finish, based solely on the 6GB drive, and feature color LEDs for choice of backlighting instead of choice of finish color.

Well, now CHAITGEAR is here to throw even more logs on the Creative fire that’s building up. There’s a new sherrif in town, and he looks like the multi-color Zen Micro in every way, except a little larger. This is the era of a NEW Zen.

It didn’t take much hunting on the Creative website to find what looks to be a described, with a 20GB hard drive, a 1.65″ LCD screen, 11 hour battery life, all of the Micro’s other features (touchpad controls, FM radio, voice recorder, FM recorder, USB2, sync with Outlook contacts, calendars, and taskst), and packaged with earphones, USB2 cable, a power adapter (even though it charges over USB2, I’d think…), both a belt-clip and desktop stand, and carrying pouch. There’s no mention (as yet) of the battery being removable. And note that the relative sizing in my picture is based on a (50-50) assumption that they’d keep the touch control pad the same dimensions, just enlarge everything else.

With the Zen Micro original models selling at amazing prices for the feature set, and Apple continuing to roll out new models before everyone else, this would be a leap forward for Creative to bring its new technology up to the top of the line, and maybe start ‘eliminating’ old models rather than keeping them around to confuse and confound consumers.
